About Dr. Matthew Viewing life as an ever-flowing journey, Dr. Matthew Whitacre’s interests in health, wellness and community have followed a similar pathway. From an early age, a number of synchronicities guided Dr. Matthew to appreciate and develop a holistic view towards life. Specializing in integrative mental health, Dr. Matthew is excited to be joining the team at Healthy Living Community and the unique team-based community model! Upon completing a family medicine residency in Spokane, Washington, Dr. Matthew furthered their training with a two-year fellowship in integrative medicine, through the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine. Integrative medicine is a healing-oriented medical approach that takes into account the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle and wellbeing. Dr. Matthew has additional holistic training in medical acupuncture, biofeedback, energy medicine and narrative medicine. During the past 12 years, Dr. Matthew has had the honor to work with rural and underserved tribal communities in Washington state. Over the years, Dr. Matthew has further specialized in the field of integrative mental health. This is an emerging field that blends conventional and complementary mental health approaches together and focuses upon aspects that impact our emotional wellbeing including: lifestyle, nutrition, movement, stress reduction, psychotherapy, supplements and medications. In addition, Dr. Matthew’s training includes a 1-year fellowship in integrative psychiatry and a masters degree in Process Oriented Psychology bringing additional depth and diversity towards their approach of integrative mental health. Dr. Matthew follows a trauma informed care approach which is honoring, non-judgmental, and recognizes the wisdom of all ways of being. Dr. Matthew has taught numerous classes, workshops, presented at medical conferences and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Outside of medicine, Dr. Matthew enjoys spending time in nature, hiking, foraging for wild foods and playing the Celtic harp. They are passionate about community, sustainability, permaculture and the planet. At the moment Dr. Matthew is in the process of moving from Washington to Oregon and awaiting an Oregon medical license. Once established, they are looking forward to providing medical care and services for the members of HLC.
