We acknowledge the history of violence, genocide, and theft of indigenous land that is foundational to the establishment of this nation, and to the state of Oregon. We believe the ideological roots of capitalism and colonialism are systematic throughout our dominant systems and pervasive in our health and 'wellness' cultures. Healthy Living Community strives to break down these systems while creatively building our own, rooted in community. However, it is not without privilege that we are doing this, and we strive to consistently unpack and unlearn ways in which we may contribute to larger dominant systems.

We acknowledge that the land where we are located is built upon the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Tualatin, Kalapuya, and Molalla bands of the Chinook, and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. We also acknowledge that systemic policies of genocide, relocation, and assimilation continue to impact Indigenous/Native American families today.

We honor the sovereignty of First Nations tribes, leaders, communities and families. We commit to ongoing, real-world efforts to center Indigenous wisdom, creativity, health and resilience in our work and life. We recognize that decolonization means land back and so we stand in solidarity with rematriation efforts. To learn whose homelands you are on, visit: Native-Land.ca
